Cookie policy

Last updated

Short version: nothing that tracks you runs until you say yes. The only storage active before consent is your shopping cart, your recently-viewed list, and the record of the choice you made in the banner. You can change your mind at any time from the cookie settings link in the footer.

How consent works here

This site implements Google Consent Mode v2. Before any tag loads, the following are set to denied:

  • ad_storage
  • ad_user_data
  • ad_personalization
  • analytics_storage

Only functionality_storage and security_storage are granted by default, because without them the site cannot remember your cart or protect itself from abuse. If you accept in the banner, the relevant categories flip to granted and the corresponding tags begin to run. If you decline, or simply ignore the banner, they stay denied indefinitely.

What is actually stored

Strictly necessary

These run without consent because the site does not function without them. None of them identifies you personally, and all of them live in your own browser rather than on our servers.

KeyTypePurposeLifetime
topghl_cart_v1Local storageThe contents of your basket, so it survives a page change or a closed tabUntil you clear it or empty the cart
topghl_recent_v1Local storageThe last twelve products you looked at, used for the "recently viewed" rowUntil you clear it
topghl_consent_v1Local storageYour cookie choice, so we do not ask again on every page12 months

Analytics, only after you accept

KeySet byPurposeLifetime
_gaGoogle Analytics 4Distinguishes one browser from another so a visit is not counted twice24 months
_ga_<id>Google Analytics 4Holds the session state for this property24 months

IP anonymisation is enabled, so Google receives a truncated address rather than your full one. Analytics data is deleted automatically after 14 months.

Payment

If you proceed to checkout, Stripe sets its own cookies on its own domain for fraud prevention. These are essential to processing a payment safely and are governed by Stripe's privacy policy. They are only set once you actually reach checkout.

Advertising

None currently. The consent category exists so the site is prepared if that changes, but no retargeting or advertising pixel is loaded today. If we add one, it will run only for visitors who have accepted that category, and this table will be updated before it goes live.

Changing or withdrawing consent

Use the cookie settings link in the footer. It reopens the consent panel on whichever page you are on, and the change takes effect immediately without a reload. Withdrawing consent stops future collection; it does not retroactively delete data already collected, though you can ask us to delete that too under the privacy policy.

You can also manage cookies in your browser settings, and most browsers offer a way to block third-party cookies entirely. Blocking the strictly necessary storage listed above will stop the cart working, which is a browser limitation rather than a choice we have made.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Browsers send these signals inconsistently and there is no agreed standard for responding to Do Not Track, so we do not claim to honour it. We do respect the Global Privacy Control signal where a browser sends one, treating it as a withdrawal of consent for analytics and advertising categories.

Frequently asked questions

Does Top GHL Snapshots set cookies before I accept?

Only strictly necessary ones. Google Consent Mode v2 runs with analytics and all advertising categories denied by default, so no analytics or advertising cookie is created until you accept. What runs beforehand is your cart, your recently-viewed list and the record of your own cookie choice, all stored in your browser and none of it identifying you.

How do I change my cookie choice later?

Use the cookie settings link in the site footer. It reopens the consent panel on any page, and your new choice takes effect immediately. You can also clear cookies in your browser, which resets the banner to its default denied state.

Do you use advertising or retargeting cookies?

Not currently. The advertising consent category exists so the site is ready if that changes, but no retargeting pixel is loaded today, and nothing in that category runs unless you have explicitly accepted it.
